울진 개들을 소개합니다 #6
다른 개들이 짖는 소리가 가득한 가운데에서도 혼자 가만히 앉아 있는 이 친구에게, 하루 두 번 밥 먹는 시간만이 그나마 사건이라 할만한 일일 것입니다. 발랄하고 쾌활한 강아지들을 볼 때 안타까운 마음이 드는 만큼, 이 친구처럼 점잖고 순한 강아지를 보아도 가여운 마음이 듭니다. 철창 안을 맴돌아도, 큰 소리로 짖어보아도, 크게 달라지는 것이 없다는 걸 알고 있어서 가만히 조용히 있는 걸까요.
세상에 많은 개들이 있고, 하나하나는 저마다 다르고, 그 개들을 모두 구할 수는 없다는 것을 생각할 때마다 까마득해집니다. 그럼에도, 내가 아는 얼굴들을 하나라도 더 살게 하고 싶다는 마음에 용기를 냅니다. 이 목소리가 어딘가에 가닿기를, 유리병 속에 넣은 편지를 띄워보내는 마음으로 이 글을 씁니다.

For this dog, who sits still alone even in the midst of the barking of other dogs, the time of having meals would be the only incident for a day. As much as I feel sorry for the lively and cheerful puppies, I feel sorry for this gentle friend as well. Does he stay quiet because he knows that nothing will change much even if he roams around in the cage and barks loudly?
Every time I think about how many dogs there are in the world, each one is different, and I can’t save all of them, I get lost. Nevertheless, I am encouraged by the desire to make even one more dog that I know live. I’m writing this as if sending a letter in a glass bottle, hoping it arrives someone in need of love and trust from these lovely creatures.
